We invite authors to share diverse perspectives, arguments, and projects on "Counter-Urbanisation." We aim to explore the current situation, future living conditions, and the challenges posed by urban changes, both retrospectively and prospectively. In certain regions across East Asia and Europe, such as Japan, South Korea, and the UK, there is movement taking place from urban to rural areas, contrary to urbanization, including those able to work online or in search of a slower, simpler lifestyle. In contrast to the projected population shift to the urban centres that currently accommodate 56% of the world’s population, a figure expected to rise to 70% by 2050. We seek to understand the duality of these opposing movements by examining the reasons behind the shift from urban to rural living and why many still choose to migrate to cities. How can we enhance sustainable quality of life for both the urbanization and counter-urbanization taking place?
