Dr Peter Cookson Smith is an architect and urban planner. He founded the Urbis Consultancy in Hong Kong in 1977 and is a Past President of the HKIUD. Between 2012 and 2015 he directed the Joint Urban Exchange between the city of Barcelona and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region through participation by the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design, the Hong Kong Institute of Planners and the Hong Kong Green Building Council.

He maintains an ongoing involvement with Barcelona, through the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). He is the author of six books on urban design, and his book on Barcelona, An Enterprising Path to Barrio Chino, was published by ORO Editions in 2019.
