Alain Chiaradia, PhD, is a built environment consultant with over 20 years of international experience, advising planning authorities and developers in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Alain’s research and teaching have produced more than 125 outputs with international recognition for outstanding impact on society, focusing on the relationship between placemaking configuration and its social, economic, and environmental impacts. He is Honorary Professor at the University of Hong Kong. Alain directed the Master of Urban Design and founded Asia’s first MSc in Urban Design and Transport. He is Vice President of the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (Research and Professional Development). Trained as both an architect and economist, Alain previously served as Board & Executive Director at Space Syntax Ltd, pioneering consultancy in spatial economics. His work combines academic rigor with practical delivery, helping clients unlock value and build sustainable, high-performing places.
